waffles:Free Leech by WGW 100!
本帖最后由 123ABD 于 2012-10-14 00:26 编辑And we did it. 100 articles in 5 years. If the Writers' Guild of Waffles (WGW) published diligently every week, we would have this done in two. If we stuck to our regular schedule of bi-monthly articles, we would have done it in less than four. We did it before the 5 year mark. ** all of you, I am drinking this champagne. I'm kidding, I am already drunk.
5 years ago I started writing for the WGW after submitting a poorly edited article on death metal which recommended At The Gates, Children of Bodom and Cynic as essential artists. This is my present self silently mocking my past self. I feel I know a bit more. I feel I have grown as a writer. I feel that if I wrote a second draft and submitted it to the metal heads thread I would still get laughed at, yet not as much. Oh there would still be giggles and ribbing to ensue but I feel it wouldn't be as bad because I feel I have grown as a person.
The last year has been a dark time for the WGW. Almost everyone had left leaving myself and a few other echoes alone. It was in this fortress of solitude I started crafting my end with a countdown articles based on my five favorite artists. There was T. Rex. There was The Grateful Dead. I was in the middle of Kraftwerk when Lattice convinced me to stay. Goddamn it. How could I say no to all of you? What should I do with these other two?
Lattice was the other writer who started with me 5 years ago. We both started as bag boys and eventually ended up managers in this great grocery market we like to call home. We found ourselves as accidental kings in a land where no one told us no. It was amazing for a time. We did an endless parade of serialized articles and saw how much metal we could reasonably publish. Through a churning cast of writers, both he and I carried on the WGW banner until the darkness set in. People stopped coming in and we were left in an empty throne room. Just a few months ago, I was ready to leave this kingdom for good. I was going to move and become a tradesman in some backwater village thus renouncing my regal past. It was Lattice who pulled me back. Goddamn it again, I can never say no.
Though I will always be split between writing for other publications, podcasting, design and drawing maps for fictional worlds, Waffles will always be apart of me. I do not know I would be so invested in music or writing without it. As humorous as it sounds, this site has been one of the most important influences on my current character. I laugh every time I think of my life with out it. Without you guys, I would never have developed this artfully suppressed yet incredibly elitist attitude when it comes to music. Ohh no, I will never tell you, but underneath you have already been judged. Don't look at my recently snatched. Stop it. How could I say no to all of you?
Lattice will fill you in on our recruitment drive while I spend the rest of the time drinking in the corner and make loud drunkenly inappropriate remarks about family members. If any of you decide to come and write for us, I can promise you thqat we will discuss things and I will be as helpful as I can be. My keys are in that bowl now go back to your ugly kids. I am just joking. Give Grandpa a hug.

Dear Friends,
It has been about five years since Waffles first held an article submission contest with the hope that it would establish a "staff" of writers who would readily (and steadily) contribute a plethora of pseudo-journalistic contributions to our little home, now succinctly tucked into that little "Articles" tab at the top of your display as a fixture on the site. Topics covered have included everything from 20th Century Classical Music, the Asian Dub Foundation, Truck Drivin' Country, Surf Rock, Canonical Black Metal, Zeuhl, and a long, long list of collaborative articles featuring our staff writers' picks for their favorite albums among many different categories. To say the least, it has been absolutely incredible thus far to have had this experience. Bands that would have otherwise had extremely limited exposure have had their albums snatched hundreds (even thousands in some cases) of times, and I like to believe that we have created an institution for a site that continues to provide us with unlimited potential to find everything we could ever want in our musical world.
Sadly, running the WGW (Writers' Guild of Waffles) has not been without its hiccups. In these five years of writing, we have seen hundreds - and I do mean hundreds - of potential writers pass through a seemingly revolving door, few staying to even write their first article despite their aggressive initial enthusiasm. That said, we persist, and despite the slowed pace of our article delivery, Kaptain and I have agreed that there will be no surrender, and there is simply far too much potential for greatness with WGW articles for exploration, discussion, criticism, intrigue, and all other forms of musical inquiry for us to simply hang up the towel.
We want you to write for us, and we want you to write about whatever musical topics you are interested in. We believe one of the reasons our previous recruits haven't stuck around long enough to contribute much has to do with the fact that there haven't been enough site-sponsored incentives in play as carrots-on-a-stick (although I would argue that a captive audience of 100K+ users should be enough!) thus, after discussion with Waffles administration, we are pleased to announce that article contributors will now be given an entire day of free leech for each published solo article that they contribute. Please note that this does not mean every article will be published - we continue to reserve the right to heavily edit or dismiss articles that we do not believe constitute true showings of journalistic effort - but we are starved for new perspectives and new pens, and we hope that this will provide an ample incentive for our fellow Wafflers to come out of the woodwork and start inking down their musical musings.
If you would like to become a permanent, contributing member of the WGW, please visit this thread for instructions on how to join our flock. If you simply wish to contribute one article, you may PM it directly to me and I will most certainly read it thoroughly. I would ask that anyone who seeks to contribute in this manner agree that they will either be closely available for contact (PM/IRC works fine) for editing purposes, or are comfortable allowing us to fully edit their submission if they will not be available. Your work will be solely attributed to you as the writer, and you will not only have a day of free leech, but a short blurb on the front page news dedicated to announcing your publication!
We look forward to reading your submissions, and hope that you will continue to patronize our little corner of a wonderful establishment.
Best,
Lattice
Note: During our multiple moving, some of the pictures may of gotten cracked and broken. All the links to torrents still work. Take some time looking through our long history. Enjoy yourselves and do not forget to sign in.
