Multiple IPs FAQ
If you share an IP address with someone, it is not necessary to alert a staff member.
1. Can I download/seed from different computers?
Yes, you can. You may use up to 3 simultaneous IP addresses with the tracker. However, This does not limit you to only using these 3 addresses. You may use as many different IP's as you wish, the limitation is on how many at once. Breaking this rule will result in a warning, or worse. As soon as you stop using 1 specific IP address, you may connect to the tracker with another IP address.
What.cd, like most private trackers, uses a passkey system to track users' statistics.
Each user is given a unique passkey. Each torrent downloaded is automatically embedded with this passkey. When you download a torrent file, you are not downloading the same torrent file as another user downloads. No matter what IP Address you connect from, the tracker will recognize your account based on your unique passkey, not your IP address.
Due to this, the rules FORBID you sharing your torrent files! Never upload your .torrent files anywhere else. Any downloading occurring with your specific torrent, no matter who uses it, will be recorded against YOUR account. It is YOUR responsibility.
2. Can I seed the same files from more than one location?
Yes you can. However you may NOT download from yourself as that is considered to be a form of cheating. If you wish to transfer torrents from one location to another use FTP or similar and stop your torrents while checking them on the new location.
3. I am currently on a different IP from my usual one, but I want to log in to the site. Is this allowed?
You may log in and browse the site from as many IP addresses as you wish.
4. My friend and I have accounts here. Could my friend log into the site with my computer or my network (IP)?
When a user logs in from an IP address associated with another user's account (going over to a buddies house) will link your accounts via this IP address. If one of the users linked to this IP address gets caught cheating, account trading, etc, the other user's account will be in jeopardy as well.
5. May I invite my roommate to What.CD?
Yes you may, however you need to remember that if one of the users linked to this IP address gets caught cheating, account trading, etc, the other user's account will be in jeopardy as well.
6. I'm using a seedbox; do I have to tell staff?
No you don't, but you can put a note on your profile stating you use one if you wish. For example "I'm on a leaseweb shared slice in the 192.168.1.* range".
7. I'm sharing a seedbox does this affect my account?
As with sharing an IP with a friend or roommate it can affect your account. If one of the users linked to the seedbox IP address gets caught cheating, account trading, etc, the other user's account will be in jeopardy as well.
